On Saturday, Sept. 9, Logansport High School’s cross country team attended the Wildcat Classic Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

The Berries placed 11th with 275 points in the boys varsity race. Varsity girls placed 10th with 280 points. Junior varsity boys placed 3rd with 62 points in the combined race, and junior varsity girls placed 1st with 15 points.

“Although running 3.1 miles is pretty difficult in itself, this particular course was really flat, which makes it a lot easier to run,” junior Aiden Snoeberger said.

Meanwhile, multiple runners during the event also got their personal records.

“Everyone did really well,” sophomore Saylor McClain said. “I’m pretty sure that everyone who competed cut down their time from the meet before.”

Senior Anthony Gallardo led the boys varsity, placing 30th with a time of 18:16.10, while sophomore Jacqueline Hernandez-Flores led girls varsity placing 27th with a time of 22:14.10. Senior Vasan Nomany led boys JV in the combined race placing 5th with a time of 21:40.21 in the combined race, and sophomore Nathalia Hernandez led the girls JV ranking 30th with a time of 26:28.60.

This is my first year doing cross country, and it has been really fun,” Hernandez said. “The whole team is really positive and fun to be around, and the run adventures we go on are really what brings us together.”

Cross country season only started at the beginning of August. The runners have expressed their enjoyment of the time they had at the Wesleyan Invitational.

While it’s hard, and sometimes running is the last thing I feel like doing, the team and wonderful coaches help me to keep pushing myself,” sophomore Audrey Graham said. “I love all aspects of cross country. I love the meets, getting outside, making friends and seeing what I can accomplish with hard work and determination.”
