From attacking her fans to feuding with child actors on social media, Doja Cat has received loads of backlash. She released her fourth studio album on Sept. 22 in the midst of the drama. Today, Doja Cat’s brand is focused more on independence. Her individualism is particularly established on social media through fashion and her discography.
Although there are many debates regarding Doja Cat’s ill-mannered presence in the public eye, she has decided she is self-governed. There is general respect for her autonomy since Doja Cat is standing up for herself as a female in the music industry. She is rather unhinged on social media, going as far as to attack her fans over her fan base name.
All things considered, Doja Cat still maintains a large fan base. Most of them believe in the concept of separating the art from the artist. It was extremely difficult to identify the best five songs on “Scarlet” since this is Doja Cat’s most diverse album.
5) “Often”
Doja Cat’s vocals in the track “Often” are smooth and comforting. This track is very R&B centralized, and it is very well performed. She possesses a soothing voice throughout the song that slows down and relaxes the album.
4) “Agora Hills”
“Agora Hills” is one of my favorite tracks on the album but has the perfect chorus. We also hear two different voices and see two personalities form in the music video. From the lyrics to the catchy rhythm, every part of this song has me in a chokehold.
3) “Attention”
Doja’s first single off from “Scarlet” was released on June 16, and it quickly set the tone for the album. Fans were excited to listen to more of Doja Cat after two years of musically maturing. In this song, she establishes her independence. She also uses unique sound effects underneath her lyrics as an innovative way to produce modernized music.
2) “Paint the Town Red”
This lead single from the album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Chart. “Paint the Town Red” was by far the most distinctive track on the album. Following her first single, “Attention,” she released “Paint the Town Red” on Aug. 4. This song has an unbelievably smooth chorus, which was danced along to on TikTok. The song itself focuses on the backlash she has received and moving on from constant hatred.
1) “Can’t Wait”
“Can’t Wait” is easily my favorite track on the album. In this song, she perfectly encompasses an attachment, romantic or platonic, that can be related to nearly everyone. The lyrics “All the things I do. All the plans I move. All the men I shoo” repeat remarkably throughout the song. This song is simply melodic, and I find myself attentive all throughout the song.
Overall, Doja Cat’s genre and style have upgraded dramatically from pop music to hip-hop, R&B and Rap. It is immensely refreshing to witness extreme musical and personality growth from mainstream artists.
