Cass County residents have been waiting for any groundbreaking or sign of construction for Jimmy John’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, which is expected to be built across from Dollar Tree. The land was purchased for $350,000 a few months ago, and all of the company’s plans and drawings have been approved.

With winter on its way, the ground will be too hard for construction, meaning the date had to be pushed back. The start date for construction is now Feb. 2024. The expected opening date is the Spring of 2024.

“The reason this situation has been having issues is because of the type of hybrid restaurant, which is a side-by-side layout,” Bill Cuppy, Cass County Chamber of Commerce president, said. “Dunkin’ and Jimmy John’s are both fairly new to this. With that, it takes longer for architectural drawings to get approved.”

There are a lot of steps some might look over when it comes to getting a new business built and running. One of these steps is resurfacing, which may take more time than most expected.

“There will be a completely new parking lot,” Cuppy said. “The whole area between Dollar Tree and the road, where the taco truck operates now, will be completely redone.”

While waiting might be a timely process, Cass County residents have much to look forward to in the near future.

“When it gets closer to construction, more towards early 2024, Cass County residents will see plenty of job openings and opportunities,” Cuppy said. “For example, when Culvers opened, they hired 60 local kids/adults from Cass County.”
