How does it feel to be a leader on the Logansport swim team?
It feels great to lead such an amazing team. We are commonly outnumbered, but we still always put up a fight and have a fun time while doing it. There’s no one else I’d rather lead.
Who has helped you the most on your swim journey?
It’s hard to say who has helped the most, but all my teammates and coaches have helped significantly. My high school teammates helped me fall in love with the sport, and my club teammates really helped me prepare for the high school season this year.
What has been your motivating factor to break all these records?
The biggest motivator is putting Logansport swimming out there. No one really pays attention to it, so I just want to do the best I can to get people to pay attention. Setting new standards for Logan’s swimming and consistently competing at a high level will help achieve that goal.
What has been your favorite record to break?
So far, the 100 free was probably been the hardest. The 50 free is also one that I’ve had my eyes on since my first race freshman year. Both of them are held by Joel Whiebrink, set in ’91. They were really fast times back in the 90’s, definitely scoring high at state. The 100 free was really nice to see gone and now I think the 50 free is next.
Who has pushed you the most to accomplish all your goals?
A lot of people have pushed me. All my teammates and coaches definitely can’t go without mention here, but I think my own view of myself has pushed me the most. I set high goals and sometimes come up short, but even if I come up short, I’m still in a better position than I was before. I still have not accomplished all my goals and will need to continue to push myself even harder to accomplish them.
What are your plans after this year?
I don’t have any plans set in stone, but I definitely plan on swimming somewhere and studying exercise science or sports management.
