On Feb. 8, LHS sent out an email announcing that a free barbershop service would be offered to students at the high school who needed a haircut. The free haircuts were given on Feb. 12. Victor Madrigal, a LHS former student and the owner of the Off The Top Barbershop in downtown Logansport, was the one in charge of cutting hair along with a few others.
“I think the world of Vic,” instructional coach Grace Scott, a former teacher of Madrigal, said. “He is such a hard worker. He has been cutting hair since he was 12 years old and has focused on achieving his dream of owning his shop.”
Scott went on to talk about Madrigal and his stance on the dreams that he wished to pursue.
“As a senior in my English 12 class, he already had his goals and dreams set and a plan to achieve them,” Scott said. “He has created a beautiful barbershop that is a special place in our community. I admire Vic’s work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.”
Madrigal shows character and affection towards others.
“He truly has a heart for helping others and is genuinely concerned about the mental health crisis affecting so many individuals,” Scott said. “Off the Top Barbershop is a space where people can come and spend time together in an uplifting environment and feel self-confidence from a top-notch haircut.”
Madrigal’s barbershop opened in 2021 and he has owned it ever since. The barbershop currently has a five-star rating. The barbershop is located between Eel River Avenue and South 3rd Street, across from the county jail.
“Honestly, it was just something I felt out of heart,” Madrigal said. “I felt like it was something we could do as a group that would make a positive impact and it did.”
Gay Saw, a senior at LHS, received a haircut.
“The haircut is better than what I expected,” Saw said. “I didn’t have that much expectation towards it. But, it turned out to be really well done. Vic is a pretty chill, laid-back person, so he’s easy to talk to and get along with. I would recommend the haircut to people that would want some.”
