The Berry Bowl is a staple of Logansport High School and has been since it was constructed in 1973. While it has stood the test of time, there have been renovations over the years. Last summer, the Berry Bowl was given a new roof.

Athletic Director Brian Strong discusses the most recent renovations, the stripping and redoing of the Berry Bowl basketball court.

Why is a new floor being installed and is there anything different or special in some way?
The Berry Bowl floor was not replaced. The scope of the work that was done was a sanding to the raw wood (the finish and paint were sanded off) and new paint and finish were applied.

The Berry Bowl logo is now a metallic red.

Has the floor been replaced before and was it for the same reason?
Your second question about has the floor been replaced before, that answer is no. It is the original floor from when the Berry Bowl was built in 1974.

How much in total did it cost?
The work was done under warranty, so it didn’t cost anything. We contract with a flooring company to maintain the Berry Bowl floor. By that I mean, yearly, they put a fresh coat of sealer on the floor, typically during the summer. Last summer, the company we have contracted determined we received a bad batch of sealer in 2020 that was separating from the other layers below and above that coat of sealer thus leading to the work that was done over the past few weeks.

Was it done at this time for convenience or was it done for another reason?
The timing of the job has a lot of factors. As you can imagine, the Berry Bowl is a very busy place. It was determined that having the work done during this time would create the fewest amount of interruptions to programming that happens in that facility.

Is it the same pattern as the last design or is it different?
We were quite happy with the original design. Although, there were a few subtle changes. Specifically, the board was changed from a stained black finish to a painted black finish. At the west end of the floor, we changed it from a white “Logansport Berries” to a red outlined in white “Logansport.” The Berry Bowl logo was done in a metallic red, and probably the feature we are most excited about is Felix’s eyes were coated in a glow-in-the-dark paint. As to why we made those changes, the design of the previous finish was very well-liked. As a matter of fact, we received many compliments on our floor. However, the company doing the work had a few more options this time around then they did the first time they painted the floor, so we took advantage of those innovations.
