Logansport has been growing with several new businesses, including McAlister’s. According to Shift Manager Marc Brummett, business is doing well with new customers every day.
McAlisters provides a healthy environment for both the employees and the guests. Now, instead of going to Kokomo, which is 40 minutes away, McAlister’s is here.
“We offer a nice quiet little place to come and have a good meal,” Brummett said. “Kind of a little bit unique compared to what you are used to here.”
Even on Saturdays, when it’s most busy, McAlister’s guests come in for a meal. There are certain “customer’s top picks.”
“Everybody wants a McAlister’s Club, you know?” Brummett said. “It’s delicious. We get a lot of people ordering the Jalapeno Turkey Crunch and surprisingly, a lot of soups, especially the cheddar broccoli soup, and we have the best baked potatoes you could imagine.”
Like other managers, Brummet had some difficulties with setting up McAlister’s.
“It was a little bit of a challenge,” Brummett said. “Originally, I was set to be the assistant manager, and the other people who trained with me in Adrian, Michigan ended up quitting, so it all fell onto me to man the scene and get things figured out.”
As a place with over 50 workers, some of the workers are going to university, looking for a job, or are simply interested in working there.
“My favorite color is green, and I just wanted a job closer to the college I go to,” Melissa Culzac, a collegiate scholar and line worker at McAlister’s, said.
Another McAlister’s worker, cashier Allison Martinez, explained her reasoning.
“I wanted a summer job, and I saw they were opening McAlister’s and thought I might as well try because I heard people say their food is good,” Martinez said.
Due to being at McAlister’s often, the team already has chosen their favorite things to order.
“What I like to do with the craft sandwich is to get the Southwest Chicken and add jalapenos, red onions, and gorgonzola cheese,” Brummett said.
As for Martinez, she reports she enjoys a crunchier sandwich.
“I think the Jalapeno Turkey Crunch is nice, but I’ll usually add jalapenos slices and the macaroni and cheese as a side,” Martinez said.
At McAlister’s, Martinez and Culzac said “It’s nice here.”
“Everyone tries to do their side of the job and help anyone around them,” Martinez said. “It’s a pretty nice job. This was my first job, and it was actually pretty easy to get the hang of it.”
According to Brummet, McAlister’s has “regular customers, one lady has come almost every day.” LHS students have also begun eating there.
“They have really good sandwiches,” Jazmin Quinones said. “Also, make sure you try the strawberry lemonade and the BLT sandwich.”
Most food places that people regularly visit in town are classified as fast-food restaurants. McAlister’s gives people a chance to eat out and still be healthier for less than $15 per person.
“It’s a different atmosphere, a lot more healthier alternatives,” Brummett said. “In this town, we have a lot of fast food. The healthier alternative has made a big impact on the guests. They are excited to have something different. It’s not just fries.”
