With the new year upon us, Hollywood will release a handful of movies. Some will be adaptations of famous bookstore classics, and others will be entirely new movies for the year. Some will be hysterically bad, but there will also be stellar films released throughout the year.
“A Minecraft Movie”
The new Minecraft film, which is set to release on April 4, is about a group of people set in a strange world based on the video game. They are guided by a man named Steve, who is played by the famous actor Jack Black. Even though “Minecraft” fans have been begging to adapt the video game into a movie, the adaptation is receiving backlash mainly for the lack of creativity in the movie trailer. Also, fans are upset the company producing the film is only interested in making money off of it. Fans want the “Minecraft Movie” to be more like a former “Minecraft” adaptation, “Minecraft: Story Mode.” This is an interactive show, available on Netflix, where you can watch and pick options for the main protagonist. Unfortunately for “Minecraft” fans, the production is set to make this movie essentially the same plot as “Jumanji”, which Jack Black also featured in.
“Dog Man”
Dog Man is a book series written by Dav Pilkey, the same creator of Captain Underpants, that also received an adaptation from “DreamWorks Animation” in 2017. Now, the same studio is recreating another one of Pilkey’s books into a movie about Dog Man’s origin story. The plot is about a police officer and his loyal police dog having to diffuse a bomb, sadly they were not able to and were injured drastically. While in the hospital, the nurse and doctor had an idea to stitch the Dog’s head to the officer’s body, thereby making the faithful, loyal hero, Dog Man. The movie is set to release on Jan. 31.
“Snow White”
“Snow White” is a live-action adaptation of the beloved 1937 animated film made by “Walt Disney Studios”. It centers around a completely new idea of “Snow White” not wanting a prince or to fall in love. This plot angered fans of the original film, who wanted a completely new princess movie if the live-action film would not follow the old plot. Even though there’s loads of backlash with the movie and company, the film will be released on March 21.
“How To Train Your Dragon”
“How to Train Your Dragon” is planned to be a live-action movie centered around the popular animated film produced in 2010 by the same Director. It takes place on a Viking island called Berk. The chief’s son, Hiccup Haddock, played by Mason Thames, finds and trains a dragon, a Night Fury named Toothless. Meanwhile, Hiccup is being taught to kill the dragons but he learns that maybe there is something underneath the fire-breathing beasts. The movie is set to release on June 13.
Most people are excited that this movie series is turning into live-action. Unlike most Disney adaptations, this director is the same one from the animated movies. Also, the staff seemingly puts all of their passion into the acting and CGI dragons. There are some setbacks, like the staff hiring people who are not blonde in the animated movie. Some people are irritated by this because blonde hair is very significant and the more dominant gene in Vikings.
“Jurassic World Rebirth”
“Jurassic World Rebirth” is a planned upcoming movie to add to the series of PG-13 dinosaur movies. However, fans are mainly excited about this film because of various rumors. They speculate that this film will focus on the original book idea, which depicted dinosaurs as more gruesome and deadly. Another reason is that the movie will be R-rated, unlike the past films where they played it safe.
“Avatar: Fire and Ash”
“Avatar: Fire and Ash,” is the third installment of the series Avatar. It will be centered around Lo’ak, played by Britain Dalton. Lo’ak is Jake Sully’s son from the Sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water. The plot follows how they will embark on being allies or enemies with Na’vi called Ash People. Even though the kind that live among the world Pandora, called Na’vi are more peaceful creatures the Ash People are more power-hungry like the humans that seek revenge and power against their defeat with Jake and Neytiri. The movie will hopefully be released to the public on Dec. 19.
“Ballerina”
“Ballerina” is a spin-off movie in the John Wick franchise, set between the events of “John Wick 3” and “John Wick 4.” It stars Ana Del Armos as Elle Macarro. Elle is a ballerina who is being trained to be an assassin for a crime organization that John Wick called Ruska Rome. This movie will not only be a spinoff of the franchise but also an interquel, a sequel that works as both a sequel but also a prequel. This movie will be set to release on June 6. Fans are excited to see the story of John Wick progress into different chains of spin-offs that talk and show the people who helped John Wick throughout his franchise.
“Elio’
“Elio” is a new film by “Pixar Studios” that follows a boy named Elio, played by Yonas Ascunsion Kibreab, who is obsessed with aliens and hopes to be able to be friends with them. When his wish comes true, he tries to become the ambassador of Planet Earth, while also becoming friends with different species of aliens. As he forms these bonds, he must find who he is meant to be in this important state.
