“Rain World” was released on March 28, 2017, for the Playstation 4 and PC and was released on the Switch in December 2018. “Rain World Downpour” was then released five years later from the “More Slug Cats Expansion” mod made by the community. Two years later, the “Watcher” was finally released for PC on March 28, 2025. The music for the campaign has also been released. The date for the port to consoles has not yet been decided or shown.
The original game, “Rain World”, lets you play as a slugcat that has been split from their family and lost in a mysterious world. As a slugcat, you hunt food like batflies and blue fruit and are hunted by lizards and other predators. While you explore this world, you may piece parts of the lore together while trying to survive. “Downpour” lets you play as five new slugcats in the timeline of “Rain World.” Some take place before vanilla “Rain World,” and some take place after it.
The “Watcher” makes you play as a slugcat wandering through a warped world. This DLC also ports fan-made regions by its community, such as Stormy Coast and Aether Ridge, into the official world of the rain world. There are new, unique creatures to survive and use to your advantage.
The DLC is ongoing and will receive updates and patches. “Rain World’s” X account has been making videos with the DLC’s official soundtrack. Most of the songs I have listened to sound like they are “warped.” Some of the different regions have different effects, such as Stormy Coast is always storming.
According to Steam, the “Watcher” DLC’s reviews have been mostly positive, with 71% of 1,545. It is also available at a 10% discount on Steam until April 11th. “Rain World’s” modding community will also have to update their creations to be compatible with the most recent update. “Rain World” is rated E for everyone.
Some people on Reddit dislike the Watcher DLC for being different from the base game, “Rain World” and “Downpour.” Other people love the DLC for its beauty and unique concept. “Rain World: The Watcher” had an ARG the last few months before being released. Parts of the ARG included words and phrases like “Consider”. “Rain World: The Watcher” should be given a go. See what you think about it.
