The tutoring program is back in the high school for students who wish to work one-on-one with a math teacher after school. The tutoring program is for students who struggle with math or have problems turning in their work on time.

The tutoring program spans from Monday through Thursday, with Kevin Reed, Erin Bauer, Hillary Pine and Haleigh Toumine as the tutoring teachers. Tutoring will take place after those school days.

Reed, a math teacher, believes the tutoring program is a good resource for students.

“I think it’s most important for them to take advantage of it as soon as possible if they start to have problems or miss any days,” Reed said.

Reed said students who are struggling should give the tutoring program a try, because they have nothing to lose.

“More often than not, we get students who just need help finishing their homework assignments or work on missing assignments in a smaller setting. Typically, there are only a few students in tutoring, so students can get a more one-on-one experience.”

Students can even make up missing tests or quizzes instead of doing them in class, potentially taking up class time for the student.

“If you are struggling to keep up, after-school tutoring can really help you to be successful in math,” Bauer said.  “You can choose a day or two a week to go.  You don’t have to come every single day.” Bauer said. “It’s free from 3:30 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday.  You can leave whenever you are done with your work; you don’t have to stay until 4:30.”

Yoslen Robaina Santana, a junior at the high school, took part in the after-school tutoring program.

“My experience has always been positive when I attend the program,” Santana said. “I think it offers something of an in-person experience where I can get help on the spot. I was gone on vacation and missed all of my chapter one, and I finished it all in one day with that teacher.”

Santana is asked about his message to students, as he recommends after-school tutoring.

“I would definitely recommend it for anyone who struggles to learn from a book or computer,” Santana said. “I always need to do and see it. It’s definitely worth it.”
