As fall arrives in Logansport, many things start to change. The animals migrate or grow thicker coats, trees change colors and the air gets crisp. Although the town is small, people make the town as festive as possible for the season. “Sleepy Hollow Haunted Hayrides” and “Howl at the Moon” are two examples of traditions. Over the past few years, the climate has become drier and warmer further into October. This causes the leaves to become dull and dead before they can even change color, making them drop sooner. By the rivers, the trees soak up moisture, helping their leaves change into more vibrant colors. The rivers in town just so happen to be a hot spot for sightings.

How fall affects this small town
October 30, 2025
This is one of the many roads in Logansport, Indiana during fall.
White-breasted nuthatchs stay in the area throughout fall and winter. They stock up on seeds and bugs and store them in bark crevices of trees. They also tend to forage with other birds like chickadees for easier food supply and safety.
