A New Tradition at LHS

High school seniors have been allowed to paint their parking spots

On Sunday, Sept. 5, seniors crowded into the Berry Bowl to paint their purchased parking spots. For the first time in LHS history, they have been allowed to paint their parking spots to their liking. Many put thought into the designs, while others left their spots blank.

Senior Audrey Graham, who painted her parking spot before fall break, spoke about her experience.

“As a class officer, I had the privilege of being a part of the entire process that got us the chance to paint these parking spots,” Graham said. “As far as the actual painting went, I luckily had my dad there to help me. After arriving at the Berry Bowl on Sunday morning, the painting process began to feel like I bit off a little more than I could chew. However, as the day went on, and I saw my spot coming together, it was all worth it.”

Senior Shelby Ping’s parking spot features a cow pun.

Graham explains the meaning of her design and what it means to her.

“I chose to paint a sunrise/sunset on my parking spot,” Graham said. “This design pays homage to my first-grade teacher, Mr. Gwin, who had sun-themed everything. He would give us lemon heads and always called us his sunshines. His class was a huge milestone in my academic career because he truly taught me that learning can be so fun. Honestly, a huge part of my love for school is owed to Mr. Gwin. The design is also a reminder that the sun will always rise and always set. This idea helps me when I am having a bad day and just need to be reminded that what I am struggling with may not be as big as it seems at the moment. Now that I see it each day when I get to school, I am always reminded of this fact.”

Senior Nicolas Bibian, whose parking spot is to the right of Graham’s, spoke about his experience painting it.

“The experience was interesting,” Bibian said. “I spent a little more money than I would’ve liked to. I got my

friends to come with me and help me paint it. All and all, I had fun painting my parking spot.”

Bibian explains what his design is and why he chose it.

“I painted flying Pikachu,” Bibian said. “It was based off a Pokémon card since I’m someone who’s really into Pokémon. We didn’t finish the actual card, but I left it like that and called it a day and just haven’t gone back to finish it yet. I don’t know if I’ll go back to paint it.”
