Logansport was the host for the Boys IHSAA Cross Country Sectional on Oct. 8.

The Berries placed fifth overall, resulting in the entire team advancing to the regionals at Culver Academies on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Maconaquah won the meet with a score of 51, followed by Northwestern (73), Lewis Cass (75), Pioneer (134), Logansport (137), Western (138), Winamac (146), Carroll (176), Eastern (221), and Kokomo (236).

Junior Ben Favors led the Berries with a 10th-place finish in 17:44, followed by junior Anthony Gallardo (26th, 18:36), senior Payton Herr (29th, 18:46), sophomore Carson Dubes (35th, 19:10), sophomore Micah Rogers (39th, 19:19), sophomore Arain Martinez (49th, 20:16) and freshman Ronald Sevilla (50th, 20:21).

“We all ran very solid. Almost everyone had a course personal best,” Rogers said. “We had no idea we were going to advance as a team. Most of us didn’t even think it was possible to advance as individuals. Barely scraping by Western felt amazing.”

Logansport hasn’t advanced to the Culver regionals as a team since 2019. This year, 20 teams will participate and the top five teams and the top 1o individuals from a non-advancing team will go to semi-state at New Praire.

“It’s an amazing accomplishment to make it to regionals,” Rogers said. “Advancing past regionals is going to be a struggle. Although, this is going to be a year to remember.”
