Communication skills are a part of everybody’s life. Whether it’s for a job or school or even a sport.

 Harvard has a website with eight ways to improve communication skills. So colleges having a website just for that proves how important it is and how much it means to them for you to be good at communicating.

 Lack of communication can cause a big mistake in the workplace or at school. “Poor communication skills – and thus poor methods of teaching – causes students’ comprehension levels to drop, and may affect their academic progress negatively’’. Most students start to slip into school due to the fear of communication. They would just much rather avoid communication than ask for help.

  Having a job is already an important matter in someone’s life, and while at work you want to be safe and try and keep others safe, Communication is a form of keeping ourselves and others safe. For example, if you are a pilot your communicating almost your whole flight, If you are lacking communication with another pilot big confusion will be made, and fatal accidents may occur.

An example of poor communication skills resulting in  an accident is from 2013. The Kiwi rail train accident was caused by “Poor communication during an overnight shift change led to a Wellington-bound train carriage derailing. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission in New Zealand investigation found that 10 weeks before the derailment, the maintenance staff had forgotten to fit split pins to bolts that held the part in a place that caused the derailment. Employees were not given the proper instructions to follow and the repair task was left out”.

  As said before sports involve so many communication skills.

 “I was playing in my softball game and I didn’t have the best communication with another teammate and that’s when we collided and it ended with me getting hurt and not playing the rest of the game” Freshman Myala William stated. “I now know how important it is to communicate to avoid accidents in the future, but we only learn if we fail in those kinds of moments” Williams stated.

  Safety is always important whether you are being safe in the workplace or being safe at school or even at a sport it should always be your main priority.
