What is Sub-Debs?

Sub-Debs is a group of juniors and senior girls who do volunteer work together. The club is completely run by the senior officers.

What was your goal this year with Sub-Debs? How did you go about accomplishing the goals?

My goal for Sub-Debs was to make it what it’s advertised to be. In the past, Sub-Debs didn’t do a lot of volunteer work and only did the fun stuff. I wanted to make sure we were doing just as much, if not more, volunteer work than the fun activities. We did three or four service projects this year, which was great. I think that this year was totally successful in doing more service work.

How do you join Sub-Debs?

We aren’t ready to start taking applications yet, but very soon there should be some applications going around. Sophomores interested in Sub-Debs should ask around and find current junior girls for an application.

What has been the hardest part about running this program?

The hardest part of running Sub-Debs is that it is primarily my responsibility. I knew I wanted to change many things at the beginning of the year, and when I did, I got some backlash for it. That’s just part of leadership, though. I think that the group is overall a little better now, but it definitely has been difficult being the sole person in charge.

What has been your favorite event this year?

My favorite event probably has to be the turkey leg challenge. It was fun to watch people at the school get excited about voting for teachers, and we raised over $300 for the Rileys Children’s Hospital. Also, we got to see Mr. Looker in a kilt and Mr. Grenard in fishnets, so I don’t think it gets much better than that.
