Homecoming is a popular thing in high schools across America. It’s the type of thing that every teenager can enjoy. Festivities at LHS consist of a dance, a parade and a football game. Homecoming has similarities to Prom. They both have one king and one queen. For Logansport, there are a lot of people trying to battle to get their crowns. All of them are from different clubs, but they have one goal in mind: to get votes for the crown.

The candidates who won the 2024 Homecoming vote were Arturo Alvarez-Gomez and Marbella Nievez-Hernandez.

What club did you represent?

Senior Arturo Alvarez-Gomez: I’m representing FFA with Marbella Nievez-Hernandez, who has been my girlfriend for five and half years.

How do you feel about being in the top five for Homecoming?

Arturo Alvarez-Gomez: I’m honestly really nervous because I’m the youngest out of five in my family, and they all graduated from this school. They all left their impact and imprint on this school, and I kinda want to win Homecoming just to kick off my family legacy.

Did you have a big group influencing you to be a Homecoming candidate?

Senior Marbella Nievez-Hernandez: Yeah, I think that the FFA Club is super well incorporated into not only our social life but also our academic lives.

How do you feel about being in the top five for Homecoming? Did you think you would make it?

Nievez-Hernandez: I knew I was going to be a nominee for FFA, but I didn’t actually expect to be in the top five this year.

How does it feel to represent FFA?

Nievez-Hernandez: It feels great. FFA is kind of a new club here at LHS, and it’s the first year that any of the members got top five Homecoming and even won Homecoming.

Why did you choose to be an FFA Homecoming candidate?

Alvarez-Gomez: I’ve been a part of FFA since it got introduced here, at the high school and at the junior high. I’ve always been kind of keen on agriculture, and with FFA being an extracurricular activity with agriculture. I kind of just appreciate the club because it’s kind of a really big family for me.

What is your most fond memory of FFA?

Alvarez-Gomez: Most recently, it would be making that cow. It took me a really long time and a lot of money to build that cow for the Homecoming parade, and I’m actually proud of how it turned out.

How do you feel about winning Homecoming Queen and representing FFA by being a winner?

Marbella Nievez-Hernandez: I feel really proud of myself for winning Homecoming Queen. It feels exhilarating to not only won for myself. With my partner and us both being in FFA, it was incredible. I had so much support behind us by our club and from other people.
