Which Bottle Is Truly Better?

Students choose water bottles for a variety of reasons

Stanley, Owala, and Gatorade are all popular bottles for holding drinks but what about them makes them worth the hype that they get?

There have been many reviews done over the years since these water bottles became “popular.” The first Stanley cup was introduced in 1913 according to stanley1913.com. In the past couple of years, Stanley has reached a certain popularity level worldwide.

“I enjoy my 40 oz cup because it keeps my water cold,” freshman Arleth Ruiz said. “It keeps me hydrated and lets me enjoy the ice after I finish my water.”

The Stanley also has many different sizes, making it easier to carry.

“I own the 40oz bottle,” Ruiz said. “It is a bit difficult to hold around in the halls, and it doesn’t fit in my side pocket. But, it holds the most water, so I really don’t care about that.”

People enjoy how all sizes fit in cup holders. In an article, ayanalage.com, she compares a reduced-priced tumbler with the 40 oz Stanley. She says they both fit into her cupholders in the car, but the Stanley goes in much easier. A con of the Stanley 40 oz is how much it spills.

“It does spill a bit,” Ruiz said. “The straw lets the water come out, and the spout lets the water fall out even more.”

She has tried getting rid of the issue through Stanley spill covers, and it has helped.

The Owala water bottle is a more recent “craze.” It has been appearing in classrooms at Logansport High School. Some sites have even begun to say that the Owala is beginning to replace the Stanley.

The Owala was created in March of 2020. The CEO of Owala thought that current water bottles weren’t suited for everyday life. The Owala water bottle has a dual drinking lid. In the lid there is a little spout with a straw attached to it, reaching down into the cup, making it simpler to sip from. On top of that, there is an opening that makes it easier to get quicker sips. That is an improvement for water bottles and why so many people have grown to adore the Owala.

“I enjoy being able to have a straw that is hidden,” freshman Isabel Hernandez said. “I’m not a big chugger, and I think that having the other option is great for when I finish soccer practice and need water.”

The Owala also comes with different sizes just like the Stanley. Owala water bottles don’t spill at all due to the lid having a top and a lock. The lock can double as a handle when carrying on the go. That is a con with the Owala, though. It has no handle of its own.

“I wish that we did get a handle for the Owala,” Hernadez said. “Sometimes ,I’ll have set my bottle down, and because I use the lock as a handle, it stayed unlocked, and some water spilled.”

Herdanez pointed out how hard the cap was to clean. She had said that since it is made out of a rubber-type material, if you were to get something on there, then it would take a while to come out.

The Owala is a lot slimmer than the average water bottle, and it has an array of colors from which to choose. The CEO had created a bottle for anything. There have been many reviews over the bottle, especially from people who are constantly working out, and they seem to only have positive things to say. According to today.com, editor Shannon Garlin said that the things she enjoyed the most about the water bottle would be how the straw is hidden and the flipping top. She enjoys being able to chug the water after getting a break in her workout session.

Lastly is poplur bottle among the football team here at LHS, the Gatorade bottle. This bottle is very directed toward athletes. Many people have heard of Gatorade; many have drank Gatorade, but not very many people use their bottles aside from the athletes. Here at LHS, you’d really only be likely to see that bottle down on the sidelines at a football game or practice.

“Those bottles are so quick and easy to get a quick sip and then go back on the field,” freshman Ary Padilla said. “It’s very easy for our managers to fill with ice and water.”

He also enjoys how they aren’t using plastic little cups anymore.

“I feel like we are now being less wasteful,” Padilla said. “It probably is also saving money for the teams not having to constantly buy the cups anymore.”

These Gatorade bottles are made out of plastic so their drinks don’t stay cold for very long.

“When we get back on the field, I don’t expect my drink to be cold anymore,” Padilla said. “I’ll usually just ask for more ice if I want my drink to get cold again.”
