Building our athletic programs and having an outlet for students is something that Logansport Community School Corporation strives to maintain for students. Some students may not have the equipment to participate in sports due to financial, family or any other needs. Felix’s Locker is finding a solution by providing a program for people to donate used or new sports equipment for students.
What is Felix’s Locker?
Coach Jaime Descoteaux: Felix’s Locker is a program to assist our athletic programs at LCSC. Our mission is to provide athletic apparel and equipment to our LCSC student-athletes. The cost of uniforms, equipment and apparel deter some students from participating in certain sports and we want to eliminate that worry for them. We hope this program betters our students and athletic programs.
Why did you start Felix’s Locker? What went into starting the program?
Coach Descoteaux: Throughout my coaching career, I have encountered many students who are interested in sports, but have stated that they cannot afford practice apparel, uniforms or equipment. They do not want to burden their families with such costs. My hope with this program is that we can discreetly supply these students with what they need to be successful in their sport.
How has the growth and support been since starting the program?
Coach Descoteaux: I have had this idea for many years and finally put it into action in 2024. Both athletic directors, Mr. Strong and Mr. Herrold, were in full support of this program and excited to get it started; as well as Mrs. Starkey. The program works directly with the coaches at the Intermediate, Jr. High and High School levels to identify the needs of our athletes. Since I am the treasurer and athletic secretary at LJHS, we found a home for the athletic supply donations at LJHS so I would have better access.
Where are you hoping to see Felix’s Locker in the next year?
Coach Descoteaux: My hope for this program is that more of our students are able to participate in sports which will ultimately benefit our athletic programs.
How do students request equipment and use Felix’s Locker?
Coach Descoteaux: Students, parents and coaches may reach out to me directly through email ([email protected]), by phone (574) 753-7115 or on our Facebook page (Felix’s Locker). If we do not have the needed item, I do my best to find it by making a post and reaching out to the community. I have had a lot of luck locating items needed from my friends and family.
How can people donate to the closet?
Coach Descoteaux: We accept clean, gently used sports equipment, uniforms, athletic shoes and Logansport Athletic apparel. Donations can be dropped off in the main office at Logansport Jr. High. Monetary donations can be cash or checks payable to LJHS. We will use monetary donations and fundraiser funds to purchase items needed that we cannot locate for the athlete or towards their uniform purchase to participate on the team.
