WoodBridge Health Campus is a long-term care facility here in Logansport. Some students here at LHS even work at WoodBridge in collaboration with the certified nursing assistant class that the Career Center offers, as well as get the clinical hours needed for certification, while others may work there on their own.
Senior Allie Robinson currently works at WoodBridge, and she started her journey on the campus inside the kitchen of the facility. She has now moved up from her previous position and is working closely with the residents at WoodBridge.
Some of the employees at WoodBridge who began their journey at the CNA class that LHS offers agree that being able to work there is a good opportunity.
“It’s a good experience to have when you might go to, maybe, the hospital or do travel nursing,” Robinson said.
Jennifer Sales, the current Director of Nursing at WoodBridge, has been working at the campus for many years. She has many connections with the students, as she oversees both the co-op students and the CNA students. She is in charge of overseeing the students that come in for clinicals, as well as being in charge of overseeing their work for progress reports.
“It gives them real-life experience instead of what you learn in a lab,” Sales said. “When you’re learning your CNA skills, you get hands-on experience, which is, in my opinion, way more beneficial than learning something on a mannequin.”
Although both Robinson and Sales agree that the job comes with benefits, they also agree that the job is tougher than it seems.
“It’s a rewarding job, but it’s a hard job,” Sales said. “It takes more mental and physical ability than most people might assume.”
