Review: “Dahmer” Thrills Inconsistently
There’s been a lot of speculation about the new show on Netflix called “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” It’s a true story about one of the most notorious serial killers in the United States, Jeffrey Dahmer. It’s mostly told from the point of view of his victims. There are 10 episodes, each ranging from 40-63 minutes long.
The show is rated TV-MA for mature audiences and is #1 on the top 10 shows on Netflix. This show is a creepy one, so this author would recommend not watching this around younger kids. The first episode takes place in his apartment where he took his last victim before he got sentenced to prison in the later episodes. The story goes back and forth for a while, moving on to different years of Jeffrey Dahmer’s life. It shows all the aspects of how his parents would argue all the time. They later got a divorce when Jeffrey was 18 years old.
Some people like to believe that his parents influenced his behavior because his mom took so many pills when she was pregnant with him, and his dad would take him to dissect roadkill at a young age for fun. This author believes he was always like that, and yes, those things may have influenced him, but he was still messed up in whichever way you want to put it.
The first victim that he viciously murdered was 18-year-old, Steven Hicks. He beat him to death with a barbell. He murdered 17 people and the age range of his victims varied. There were two 14-year-old boys and another man was 33 years old.
The plot of the show got more drawn out at the end, considering how long each episode was. This author thinks the actors were very good in the show though. Evan Peters played the role of Jeffrey Dahmer, and his acting was incredible. The things that Jeffrey Dahmer did to his victims were the most horrific and evil things imaginable. This show was a very thrilling one and it tells the horrific story of almost each one of his victims.
Although, one thing that was noticed was the episodes seemed too long to watch. If you are looking for a show that will take a while to binge-watch, then this will probably be perfect for you. It just seemed inconsistent sometimes. At one point, there will be a lot of action and suspense, and at other times there was just too much dialogue needed. This author gave this show a 4.7/5 because the acting was superior except for the fact that as the episodes went on, the plot got more boring and inconsistent. This author recommends this show to more mature audiences.
