Women, since the beginning of time, have been treated with disdain and treated like lesser human beings. This treatment has caused women to have various stereotypes put on them. Some of these stereotypes include: that women are irrational, that they are less competent and that they are weak.

Women’s History Month puts a new spotlight on our female companions and destroys these stereotypes. Women’s History Month started off as “Women’s History Week” in Santa Rosa, California, in 1978. The same organizers who recognized and started  “Women’s History Week” also designated the week of March 8 as International Women’s Day.

This led to lobbying for national recognition in 1980, and in February 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed the first Presidential proclamation, which made “Women’s History Week” take place in the month of March. Every President since Carter has proclaimed and kept March as “Women’s History Week,” then in 1987, Congress passed Public Law 100-9, making March “Women’s History Month.”

Ladies have had a long and hard-fought story to be recognized and to be seen. This hard-fought effort shows the determination that women have when it comes to bringing about change and fighting for what’s right. Not only are women important, but so is their history month.

Having a Women’s History Month not only shows their contributions to society, but it also shows the struggles that women go through and how hard they have to fight to be seen and recognized. Women are often unseen warriors. They go through silent struggles that most people will never know. Women’s History Month offers not just one day or just one week, but offers an entire month for Women to connect through their struggles and preserve and triumph.

This month is very important not only to this nation but to the world. It shows our nation not only that Women are triumphant and tough, but it also shows the world and every woman out there that they are also triumphant and tough, that they can persevere and get through anything that life throws at them.

Our nation shows acceptance by having different history months, and it shows the diversity within the very bounds of the United States. Our nation having this acceptance and recognition should show every country and every nation, and every corner of the world that they should have their very own Women’s History Month.

Every woman on this globe deserves to have their light shine on every part of this terrestrial ball. And Women’s History Month perfectly encapsulates this light not only for one month but for every day.

The light that ladies shine on the globe is of utmost importance. Not only for the remembrance of their struggles and their history. But it is also important not to repeat those mistakes.

We must strive to break the cycle of history repeating itself. If we do not, then we will not be better than the very same people who caused those mistakes in the first place.  We must not only break this cycle but also set an example to future generations. So that those generations learn from our failures and become better.
