How long have you been a teacher?

This is my third year teaching.

What’s your favorite part about teaching?

I think getting to know all of the students and really seeing what classes are louder and like to have more fun, and what classes are quieter but like to play games. I just love getting to know the students.

Why was the tutoring program created?

Math tutoring was created because we have had so many students who were struggling with their math skills, and so many that we saw that needed extra help. Maybe they didn’t need extra help every single day. Maybe it was just to prepare for a test or quiz to get help with a certain topic that they weren’t really understanding. So, we decided to have tutoring Monday through Thursday so those kids could come in and get help.

What’s the difference between the tutoring program and normal teaching?

The difference in my mind between tutoring and teaching is that when we are teaching a subject and going through a lesson, we are introducing it for the first time and a lot of the time with brand new information that you haven’t seen before. But with tutoring, it’s less of a teacher standing up at the board and explaining everything. It’s more of what you learned today or last week that you’re still struggling with, so let me help you, let me do more examples, or let me show you the steps in a one-on-one way. Instead of teaching it to a whole class of students, I’ll introduce it again slowly.
