A variety of Logansport High School students live different lives compared to each other. With everyone having their own occupation and extracurricular activities that they personally like. Due to that, Sonder is a big thing in this community, where we as individuals have a realization that every passerby has a life of their own, and it applies a lot at LHS.
Students like junior Samantha Baker lead a subtle yet fulfilling life, with sports and after-school activities that keep them busy, as well as employment.
“It depends on the season what I do,” Baker said. “In the fall, I’m usually golfing after school or at golf practice, and spend the weekends cheering almost all year, and then once it hits springtime, I work at Sycamore Drive-in after school, and I’m really interested in going to the gym and doing arts and crafts when I get home.”
On the other hand, we have students like senior Reyna Hernendez who stay very busy and work hard to keep things moving in her life; even with all that, school and work remain a priority.
“I wake up, wake my brothers up, and make sure they are up for school, get ready for school, leave and come to school,” Hernandez said. “My morning classes are all pretty easy, and after fourth period, I usually go to Landis, and I student teach for two periods, and then after that, I usually have about two hours, which is an hour and a half between that and going to work when I have to go to work. Usually, I work with like pageant stuff when there is state prep or hosting an event, or just writing up social media posts. Then I either go to work, or if I’m home, sometimes I go spend time with some daily or friends, or work on some other pageant stuff and homework. And then after that, I shower and go to bed and get lots of sleep so I can go to school the next day and repeat.” Senior Hernendez said.
With Carolyn Martinez its kept simple and calm, with sport being included but also balancing social time and time to just relax and play games.
“I wake up, I get ready for school, do my makeup, shower, everything, then I go to school, after school I have track, and after track I get picked up and dropped off,” Martinez. “Either I hang out with my friends after track or just go home and take a nap. When I get home, I do my homework and watch TV or play Fortnite.”
Junior Yandiral Pizzaro Cotto juggles being thorough and productive and has an industrious cycle of a routine.
“In the morning, I just wake up, do my thing, you know what I’m saying, and I make my own breakfast and get ready,” Cotto said. “In school, in the afternoon, I just study, getting ready for the afternoon. After school, we go straight to track practice. I run, and at night, I go home and sleep, and I’m playing Marvel Rivals too.”
Many people are very family-oriented and friend-oriented, like spending time with loved ones, and are very social. Guardianna Alverez is a good example of that. She often spends time going out with her family and is undisturbed.
“Basically, what I do in a day is wake up, brush my teeth, get ready, go to school, get back,” Freshman Guardianna Alverez said. “And usually I get ready with my dad to go to the gym, and then come back, might hang out with my sister or cousin for a bit, and then clean up when I get home and kind of chill for the rest of the day and take a shower and like go to bed.”
Throughout LHS, lives consist of many different things. A lot of differences and even similarities among these students. Each indiviual having their own things to do, their own interest, and how they like to spend their time after school. Although all students come together for seven long hours of the day, the dispersion of the school day allows students to unwind and be their own person.
