The Swing Choir poses for the ending of “Sparklejollytwinklejingley.” A song from “Elf the Musical” that they put their own twist on.

The Christmas season for the choral department at LHS is always bustling with many events and performances that remind audience members just what Christmas is all about. The LHS Swing Choir and the Logansport Children’s Choir maintain a high standard of excellence during this time due to their many performances and previous successful holiday seasons.

From caroling in the halls with the Swing Choir to performing at churches with LCC, all of these events play into what the choral department believes is most important during this time. Choir director Tim Cahalan highly believes these performances give an impact students often can’t fathom.

“Obviously, with this many performances and the various rehearsals, December is an extremely busy time for Susan and me,” Cahalan said,  “But, we believe the whole point of developing these fine choirs is to share their music with our community whenever we can, especially during the Christmas season. It’s easy for our students to forget just how much seeing and hearing these performances during this special time of year can mean to our audiences.”

Swing Choir Christmas events this season are as follows:

  • Monday, Dec. 12 at 4:45 p.m. – School board performance in McHale
  • Monday, Dec. 12 at 7:00 p.m. – Tri Kappa Sorority performance at the State Theater
  • Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6:15 p.m. – Black Dog performance
  • Tuesday, Dec. 13  at 7:00 p.m. – Cass County Public Library performance
  • Wednesday, Dec. 14 during Period 2 – Caroling in the halls of LHS
  • Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6:15 p.m. – Woodbridge Health Campus performance

Additionally, here are the upcoming performances for the Logansport Children’s Choir this Christmas season:

  • Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6:15 p.m. – Woodbridge Health Campus
  • Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3:00 p.m – Miller’s Merry Manor
  • Sunday, Dec. 11 at 6:00 p.m. – Center United Methodist Church in Young America, Ind.
  • Sunday, December 18 at 2:30 p.m. – Logansport Children’s Choir Winter Concert

This LCC Winter Concert is the 35th anniversary of the Logansport Children’s Choir. It is also Tim and Susan Cahalan’s last year before their retirement in the LHS choral program. Despite this, both have put much effort into every event, but especially into the holidays. One of Cahalan’s favorite Christmas movies is “Elf,” and it is this essence of Christmas cheer that the Cahalans aim to ooze in their choirs.

“That’s what it’s all about,” Tim Cahalan said, “To quote from the movie, ‘Elf,’ ‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!’”
