After the resignation of former Mayor Chris Martin of Logansport, his successor and Deputy Mayor, Jacob Pomasl has taken power. Pomasl has been serving as the interim mayor until the Republican Caucus chose him as the official mayor on Saturday, April 18.

During an interview with the new Mayor, Jacob Pomasl is asked if his transition to mayorship has been easy.

“Fortunately, I’ve been doing many of the day-to-day aspects of the job for several years as Deputy Mayor, so I am familiar with the responsibilities and what the office entails,” Pomasl said. “We have an experienced team at the City from the Department Heads down the list which makes life a lot easier for me. Good people who care about doing their jobs well for the residents of Logansport. I have excellent relationships across City, County, State and Federal government which will allow me to hit the ground running better than any other new mayor we’ve had.”

When asked about what has been the most difficult, Mayor Pomasl explains that his beginning has been quite easy.

“It hasn’t been too difficult, honestly,” Pomasl said. “Some of the functional aspects are tedious such as getting a new email set up and making sure people know the best way to get ahold of me. I have a few extra boards that I sit on now which add a little bit to my schedule on a weekly basis. Otherwise, it has been a fairly seamless transition.”

When asked his opinion on the state of the city, Mayor Pomasl explains that he believes the future for the city is bright.

I think the City is thriving and has a ton of positive momentum,” Pomasl said. “We have great people in the private sector who are doing everything they can to make things better in our community. Opening new businesses, providing improved spaces for everyone to come together and enjoy, etc. Our downtown is booming and seems to have something new every time we turn around. National brands are taking notice and have opened up or have announced plans to do so in the near future. A lot of great things happening in Logansport with more to come! People around the state are taking notice.

Mayor Pomasl explains his goal as mayor of the city.

“The number one goal of any mayor should be maintaining strong public safety,” Pomasl said. “Only a safe community can be a thriving one. I also plan to work with City Council to invest heavily in repaving our streets. Top tier infrastructure, from roads to utilities, are direct investments in our residents and our businesses. Opening up our riverfront for redevelopment and getting our old government facilities off the rivers, especially near downtown, will also be a key initiative for my administration.”

Mayor Pomasl explains the most concerning issue the city is facing.

“Rising costs our residents are facing from every angle is a chief concern of mine,” Pomasl said. “Determining how we can keep quality of life high and cost of living low compared to the rest of our peer communities is something that we must wrestle with. We need to be proactive and strategically invest in our infrastructure priorities while keeping costs as stable as possible for the long-term.”
