Lily Newell is a member of the Class of 2025 and serves as a photographer and social media helper for Magpie. This is her first year on staff. One of her favorite parts of being a member of Magpie is interacting and collaborating with others. She is involved in various clubs such as the Academic Super Bowl for Fine Arts, Student Council, Key Club, Future Leaders, Berry Buddies, and Chinese Club. Outside of school, she likes to watercolor, read, and hang out with friends and family. In her spare time, she also enjoys trying new things.

Many of the students at LHS have stayed up late studying or just laying in bed tossing and turning. Late-night snacks have always been a reliable source that has helped students get through their night. Cheez-It brand crackers are one of the many options students have favored as their go-to snack. The lightly salted, thin crackers are nongreasy and dont contain any sugar, thus, helping students fill their hunger without worries of staying up.

LHS graduate, Karissa Hettinger, spends her time at the Black Dog Coffee shop making and serving coffee to people in the community. Working at the shop has allowed her to see how local businesses grow in a community. Hettinger has been working at the shop for three years now.

Selena Gomez wears a lime green dress as she walks the carpet at the American Music Awards. Gomez is an American singer, actress, producer, and businesswoman. She’s spent most of her acting career working with Disney Channel. As she got older, she started to pursue music. As of February 2023, Gomez has won 150 awards and got 455 nominations. One of her newer accomplishments was founding the makeup brand, Rare Beauty.

On Mar. 9, junior Izabella Corcoran attempts to serve the tennis ball to her opponents. It’s Corcoran’s first year playing tennis. Coach and teacher Adam Thompson has been offering optional workouts for any girl who wanted to join tennis for over a month. During the workouts, the girls have been doing various activities, such as stair laps, running and stretching. The girls tennis season officially started on Mar. 13. The team is excited to get back to trying to win the sectionals.

Art teachers Nicole Ingalls, Bryan Hole and Charmaine Griffith pose in the LHS art gallery. Ingalls is the 3-D art teacher and has been at Logansport High School for two years now. Hole is the 2-D art teacher and has been working at the high school for about sixteen years. This year is Griffith’s first time working at the high school. Before teaching here, she used to work at the Logansport Junior High School.

Almost half an hour until the ribbon cutting of the vending machine, fourth grader Clara Caudillo stops and gazes at all the books it contains. On Feb. 13, students and staff got the chance to see the vending machine in all its entirety. The machine has been at Landis Elementary for a couple of weeks, and students have been on the edge of their seats wanting to know how the machine works and how to use it. “We ordered our machine in November, and it was brought to Logansport right before Christmas break,” Long said. “This was definitely a process and took several different people to make this happen. We are so grateful for them. Ellen and I are especially grateful for our administration, who supported our idea and did everything they could to make this idea a reality.”

Sophomore Samuel Esqueda puts a twenty-peso bill in principal Matt Jones’ voting jar. The week of Feb. 20, the FFA club planned different occasions students and staff could participate in to celebrate National FFA week. Each year the United States celebrates National FFA week. The week coincides with President George Washington’s birthday because he greatly contributed to United States agriculture.

The Culinary Arts third and fourth period class prepares to cook for the teachers’ carry-in on Feb. 3. Before the students can cook, they have to put on their hair nets, wash their hands and sanitize the counters. “Since we cater and work around dangerous equipment, it is very important that each student knows some basic kitchen safety,” Saylor said. “Each year, the students start out with learning what is needed to be safe in the kitchen with equipment and food safety. They must pass the exam with an 80% or better to be in the lab. This is done so that I do not worry if the kiddos will serve unsafe foods.”

Still in good condition is the promotional booklet of the Logansport High School from 1973. On the right page of the booklet is a picture of the library from when Logansport High School had just opened. Principal Matt Jones was looking through the booklet in 2016 and realized that the library hadn’t changed since 1973. This exact picture is what inspired Jones and superintendent Michelle Starkey to start the renovation of the library.
