Why did you decide to create the Society of Asian Culture?

I found this society because I found a lack of representation regarding Asian culture at LHS. Even though we have a Chinese Club, there is no club representative of all Asian countries. Overall, I believe our culture is underrepresented in the USA.

What steps are you taking to build the foundation of your club?

I am actively recruiting members and other teachers, along with spreading the word throughout our school. I have also started an account on social media, @secretsocietyofasianculture, that includes a load of people holding up a sign to take part in our trend “Everyone Loves the Society.”

What activities is your club participating in?

Recently, we were still heavily involved in the recruitment process. However, we are looking forward to club meetings and fundraising events in the future. We also are holding a chopstick competition and plan to sell green tea.

How is the Society of Asian Culture teaching the students of LHS?

We are covering a wide range of topics from food to upcoming events and festivals. Our society is educating the students of LHS about other ethnicities and cultures within the school. We are very fortunate to attend a school with such a diverse student body.

How many students have shown interest in the club thus far?

Around 50 students have joined the society so far, and many more have shown their interest.

Who can join the society?

Anyone and everyone attending LHS can join our club. This is because I believe that our club especially focuses on honoring, respecting and learning about other cultures. Accepting everyone directly battles against ignorance in our school.

Why do you encourage the students of LHS to join?

We have many upcoming events planned that appeal to many students. Also, every student should learn to appreciate and educate themselves about other cultures.
