The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, widely known as ICE, seems to be getting out of hand. Recent events have caught the public’s attention. Immigrants are being taken from their families and being harmed in the process, a process that causes a lot of emotional damage in some people’s eyes. Recently, there was a shooting, and many people have expressed similar opinions about how wrong this is.
“My opinions on ICE and every situation where someone gets killed, murdered, people are getting tortured, being lied to or getting treated cruelly and unfairly, is that we all as individuals of society should be aware of the situation,” senior Jennifer Fleurinord said.

In general, social media helps people discover more about these situations and gain a deeper understanding of what is really happening, as well as being aware of the disturbing things being done to people.
“Whether you are watching the news or on TikTok, we should recognize what is happening in our world at the moment,” Fleurionord said. “If we all work together and we all do our part, it’s not that hard to share a video, share a post or even sign a petition for this, but be aware of how messed up the system is at the moment.”
Sadly, there are more cases where ICE agents have taken the lives of citizens. An American citizen, Renee Nicole Good, age 37 and mother of three, is a victim of a Minneapolis ICE raid that caused her to lose her life at the hands of an ICE agent. There were countless ways that situation could’ve been handled better, or even completely avoided.
“I do think they could have handled that situation better because instead of shooting her, they could’ve reached out to her without weapons if that makes sense,” sophomore Mia Sanchez said. “They could have been calm instead of going straight to killing her.”
These situations are the cause of why people think America is going downhill, and it is losing its sense of safety because now people are afraid that even if they are a citizen, ICE might arrest them. Immigrants are scared to even go out without the idea that they are going to be shot or split up from loved ones, just because they simply wanted a better life or just a fresh start.
